The Besties, Home Free

The Besties make pretty good music, despite their quirky name, so listen up. Their newest release Home Free on Hugpatch records is worthy of a listen.

The Besties play a fun brand of upbeat pop that sounded familiar upon first listen. The record starts with more distortion and fuzz making a different sound than the latter part of the record which is cleaner and more straightforward pop. The guitar manages to shift from garage band to surf rock at times, and the keys go from melodic fuzz lines to clean chord accompaniment, yet the vocals of Kelly Waldrop though stay sultry and assertive throughout the entire record. The backup vocals, and basic straightforward drums and tambourine really add to the fun feeling the record possesses. The sound of the record easily fits in with stuff I already listen to, making a solid addition.

Simply put: the Besties are making more of the fun, positive music we all need.
